Capture a Photograph
The Photograph field displays an image of the applicant on the credential. Instant ID as a Service uses a web camera through the browser to capture the photograph. With the Capture a Photograph tab open, follow these steps to capture a photograph of the applicant. For more information on configuring where captured signatures are stored, refer to Configure Photo Fields.
Note: Uploaded photograph file sizes are limited to 3MB.
Configure a Photographic Device for a Web Browser
Note: External photographic devices are compatible with Chrome and Edge web browsers. Refer to the following instructions on configuring photographic devices on Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
Note: Chrome and Edge web browsers select your device's integrated web camera by default.
Configure a Photographic Device in Microsoft Edge

Configure a photographic device in Microsoft Edge.

Open Microsoft Edge on your operating system.

Click Settings and more

Click Settings

In the Search settings search bar, enter "Camera".

In the search results, select Camera

Select a photographic device in the Camera drop down.
Configure a Photographic Device in Google Chrome.

Open Google Chrome on your operating system.

Click Customize and Control Google Chrome

Click Settings

Click Privacy and Security on the left-side navigation panel.

Click Site Settings.

Click Camera.

Select a photographic device from the drop-down menu.
Note: If external photographic devices do not appear in your browser settings, disable the integrated web cam in Device Manager and reboot.
Take a Photograph Using a Web Camera
Follow these steps to capture a photograph of the applicant using a web camera configured on the browser.
- To enable automatic cropping of the photograph, select Auto Crop.
- Click Capture
. The Capture Photograph dialog box opens.
Note: For the first capture, you might need to grant the browser access to the camera.
- Tap Capture
. The Capture Photograph dialog box opens.
Note: The browser might request access to the camera on the mobile device. Allow the browser to access your camera to continue.
- Adjust the web camera to position the applicant in the frame. Or, instruct the applicant to move within the frame so that the applicant's image covers most of the frame.
- Click Capture. Instant ID as a Service takes a photograph of the applicant.
Note:
If Auto Crop is enabled, Instant ID as a Service detects the face of the applicant in the photograph and crops the image. If Instant ID as a Service cannot locate a face in the photograph, it instructs you to manually crop the photograph.
- Manually crop the photograph.
- Click Edit

- Position the cropping frame on the photograph. If Auto Crop is disabled, click and drag on the image to position the cropping frame.
- Click Crop.
Note: The photograph field on the credential design sets the aspect ratio of the photograph on the credential.
- Click Edit
- Click Next.
Upload a Photograph of the Applicant
Follow these steps to upload an existing photograph of the applicant.
- To enable automatic cropping of the photograph, select Auto Crop.
- Click Upload
. The Open dialog box opens.
- Tap Upload
.
Note: The browser might request access to the file system on the mobile device. Allow the browser to access the file system on the mobile device to proceed.
- Select an image file from the file system.
- Click Open. Instant ID as a Service loads the image file into the photograph field.
Note:
If Auto Crop is enabled, Instant ID as a Service detects the face of the applicant in the photograph and crops the image. If Instant ID as a Service cannot locate a face in the photograph, it instructs you to manually crop the photograph.
- Manually crop the photograph.
- Click Edit
